The Cultural Committee of the Institute has been actively grooming students to involve and participate in Intercollegiate festivals and youth festivals of the University of Mumbai, over the past many years. Students are molded by teachers in an organized manner and trained to participate in every cultural event organized by different colleges. Celebrating cultural festivals in college has become an integral part of the legacy of our College, preparing students for real life and strengthening their personal skills.
These cultural activities not only help students to identify themselves with the college and university, but also assist students to develop themselves in a desired field, improving skills such as organizational, presentation, leadership, and interpersonal communication.
As social and cultural activities are of paramount importance, the College has been encouraging all extracurricular activities that align with the educational objectives of the institution and meet the needs of the students. Students actively participate in arts and culture at varying levels of skill and engagement, making them creative, hardworking, and dedicated.
The Cultural Committee always stands in support of proliferating new talents and imparting motivation among students to achieve success.
It was observed that participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities was restricted to only a few front-runners. To encourage widespread participation, the college introduced the House System, ensuring broader support and a more competitive spirit. Five houses were created and named after the pancha tatva, the five elements of nature: Agni, Aakash, Jal, Prithvi, and Vayu. The houses were assigned symbolic colors—red, dark blue, light blue, green, and white, respectively. Each house selects a mascot and a logo, with special flags and banners designed to give each house a distinct identity.
All students belong to one of these five houses. Captains and vice captains are selected through an interview by a panel. Each house is headed by a captain and a team consisting of vice captains, board of directors, and class directors. Their role is to motivate and encourage participation in the various programs organized by the college.
Every competition is awarded a ranking and given credits. The house with the maximum credits wins the coveted Inter-House Cup. All co-curricular and extracurricular programs organized by R. D. & S. H. National College are conducted through the House System. Besides these programs, the House System is involved in facilitating other socially relevant initiatives that help students become aware of their social and environmental responsibilities.
The Cultural Committee also plays an active role in facilitating student participation in intercollegiate and extracurricular programs, including the Youth Festival organized by the University of Mumbai. In recent years, participation in these programs has grown significantly, and during the 2017-18 academic year, students from R. D. & S. H. National College won several trophies in prominent intercollegiate festivals and the Youth Festival.
