The department of physics is one of the prominent departments of the college with the faculty strength of seven and 10 support staff. Approximately 200 undergraduate degree students are enrolled with the department. We have a postgraduate (MSc) program with specialization in Electronics –I where 20 students are enrolled.

The staff members of the academic and support cadre have always been the stronghold of the department, who have played key roles in its outstanding performance in various fields of activity, especially in the realm of academics. The department is a part of prestigious DBT Star college grant that college has received for nurturing the basic sciences culture. Under this scheme, the department conducts various subject related events and workshops to inculcate various qualities like logical reasoning, experimental skills, scientific knowledge and research skills in students. The Department has a research centre equipped with new scientific instruments. The faculty of the department are engaged in research work in some of the important areas such Electronics and Embedded Systems, IoT, Material science, Electronics and Telecommunication, Renewable Energy, Sol –Gel Glass Technology , Laser Physics, Nuclear Physics etc.  Text books based on curriculum are also written by faculty members on regular basis. The learning environment is enhanced by the use of ICT enabled classrooms and efforts are taken to ensure that the learning process is innovative and progressive, giving due importance to problem-based learning. Assignments and other learning activities are set in line with this approach.
